It’s easy to get stuck in a routine. Wake up, head to work (or school), remain in work or school all day, eat dinner, sneak in an hour of Netflix, go to bed, repeat.
Maybe our day to day varies slightly with an occasional weekday plan, but all-in-all does this routine sound familiar? Conducting the same routine week in and week out won’t move you ahead in your life goals. We are challenging you to a 30-day plan. Can you shake up your routine by adding something new to your day, every day, for 30 days?
Day 1: Start the 30-day plan with a nice workout. If you don’t already, add a quick run into your day today.
Day 2: When is the last time you picked up a good book? Here’s a good one for you to try.
Day 3: Try your hand at some creative writing. Pick up a notepad and write something to fit this prompt. Fill in the blanks, “I’d love to _____ but my _____ just _____!” Now write a story that follows it.
Day 4: Have you ever developed an idea for a business or app? Take the time to write your idea out, at least partially. We will revisit this later.
Day 5: Pick up the phone and call someone you haven’t checked in with recently. Hearing an update from someone else’s world can be inspiring.
Day 6: Today seems like a great day for a hike. Try to spend at least 1 hour in nature today.
Day 7: Try a new recipe. If you’re lucky enough to live in an area with a farmer’s market hand pick all of the ingredients to go into your meal. Learn the health benefits of your ingredients.
Day 8: Pick a new skill to learn. Download an app like Duolingo and start a regimen to learn a new language.
Day 9: There is serenity in a clean work and living space. Do a deep dive into your living space. Clean up, sort through your closet for clothes you could donate, or even re-arrange your furniture. Shake it up.
Day 10: Remember day 4 when you started to pen your business/app idea? Keep it going. Pick up where you left off and develop your idea a little further.
Day 11: Build something. Head to your local craft store and pick up a model, or go to a toyshop and pick up legos. Tap into the engineer side of your brain and build something new.
Day 12: Reach out to someone on LinkedIn for networking purposes. See if you can land a coffee chat with someone that’s working in the profession of your dreams. Spark a conversation with someone you can learn from. Networking is crucial.
Day 13: When is the last time you practiced math? Whether it’s your times tables or something more complex, try your hand at math today.
Day 14: Try something new. It’s up to you: maybe it’s a new food, new exercise, or new commute home. Whatever you chose, just make it new.
Day 15: You’re half-way through the 30-day challenge. Head over to the market and pick up a sweet treat to reward yourself.
Day 16: Volunteer. How often do we praise those that devote their time, yet don’t actually donate time ourselves? Pick an organization that speaks to you and give an hour or two of your day.
Day 17: Working out doesn’t even require leaving your house. Drop and give us 20: 20 push-ups and 20 sit-ups.
Day 18: Let’s look back on day 10. Did you develop your app or business idea further? Don’t stop now. What next steps can you make to bring your idea closer to a reality?
Day 19: Check in. How has your book from day 2 coming along? Are you ready for your next one?
Day 20: Read something current. If you’re not much of a news buff, make an effort.
BBC is a great resource.
Day 21: Watch a film in another language. If you’re feeling exceptionally bold, don’t use subtitles. See how much you can understand by simply watching body language and the director’s art.
Day 22: Unplug. Try to block out two hours where you don’t look at technology at all. Rely on a magazine, a notebook, or something else that’s not electric or technology.
Day 23: When is the last time you evaluated your hobbies. What do you do for fun to break up the monotony of your day to day?
Day 24: Spend time playing Sporcle . It’s addictive, but also mind-sharpening.
Day 25: Paint a picture. You don’t have to be an artist, just give it a shot.
Day 26: Spend time in isolation today. Turn off the background noise and block out ancillary conversations. Just hang out with yourself, and see where the day leads you.
Day 27: What career path are you on. Do you know what skills are most valued in your profession? Take some time to set a plan for career development. In 3 months can you learn HTML? Is there a program you can get certified in for improved job prospects?
Day 28: Random act of kindness buy someone a cup of coffee, give someone a tip that could change their day. Whatever it is, act selflessly today, and help someone else out.
Day 29: Put in an extra hour: An extra hour at work, an extra hour studying, and extra hour working out.
30-Day : Have you ever meditated before? Today is a great day to take it up.
Soak in the efforts you’ve given over the last 30-day plan. What have you learned? Did you find something new to add to your schedule regularly?
