Policemen protest plight of colleague knocked down by Hisbah guards

From Desmond Mgboh, Kano
Tongues are wagging among police officers in Kano State after an official van belonging to the Kano State Hisbah Board, knocked down and fractured the two legs of a junior police officer, Sergeant Adamu Garba.
Saturday Sun gathered that the 45-year-old officer, who hails from Borno State, was hit on August 12, 2017 by a fast speeding Hisbah vehicle.
The victim, a father of five, was knocked from behind, while manning a checkpoint along Zaria Road.
The accident happened when vehicle of the board raced against traffic in a bid to catch up with some trucks carrying cartons of beer.
Although the authorities of the board had undertaken to offset the bills arising from the accident, as well as support the family during the period of his hospitalisation, it was gathered that this ceased after paying for the first surgery.
They had also exposed the family to double tragedy; as its injured breadwinner could no longer provide food or fend for the members.
Son of the officer, Mr. Joel Adamu Garba, while speaking to reporters, accused Hisbah of abandoning their daddy after they had promised to take care of him. He said his condition was getting worse.
Some of the policeman’s colleagues, who did not want to be quoted, appealed to the commissioner of police in the state to intervene and get him respite.
Contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force in Kano State, DSP Magaji Majia, confirmed the accident, which he said was committed by a, “sister security organisation”
