2 Men Sentenced To 6 Months In Jail For Stealing Generator


A Sokoto Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday sentenced two middle-aged men, Bilyaminu Mustapha and Abdullahi Abubakar, to six months imprisonment each, for stealing an electricity generating set, valued at N33,000.
According to reports, the Magistrate, Abubakar Adamu, who convicted them as they admitted committing the offence, said that the imprisonment would serve as deterrent to others who engaged in stealing.
The convicts were charged with criminal conspiracy, trespass and theft.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Abubakar Tambuwal, had told the court that the convicts conspired and stole the generating set from the residence of one Mohammed Sanni.
He told the court that the owner of the stolen item which was valued at N33, 000, resided in Aliyu Jodi area of the city.
He said the complainant earlier reported the case to the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) office, Sokoto South Division.
Abubakar said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 97, 287 and 348 of the Penal Code
