Popular Nigerian Lawmaker Bags 101 Days Suspension

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has suspended the legislator representing Ekiti-East Constituency 1, Fajana Ojo-Ade, for 101 legislative days without pay. During the period, which was in the first instance, his colleagues had barred him from within one kilometre radius of the assembly complex “except he shows signs of genuine remorse.” The lawmaker was also ordered to submit all properties of the assembly in his custody to the clerk of the House. A statement signed by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Samuel Omotoso, yesterday, said the suspension followed the outcome of the disciplinary committee set up by the speaker, Kola Oluwawole, to investigate Ojo-Ade. Power Failure Interrupts Business At The Murtala Muhammed Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has formally apologised to Nigerians over the power failure that interrupted business at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA), Lagos. The power failure at the airport grounded activities for more than one hour before the battle to restore light in the ever busy airport was successful. Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, the General Manager (Corporate Communications) of FAAN, apologised on Thursday in Lagos with an explanation that the outage happened on Wednesday night. Engineers from FAAN restored electricity to the terminal as passengers conducted their activities in the dark with some clutching to flash lights. Police Arrested Me Because Of My Dressing, Murder Suspect Confesses [Photo]

A 27-year-old suspected murderer, Prince Amadi, said he was arrested recently, by policemen because of his mode of dressing, in Port Harcourt. Amadi had been at large since December 19, 2016, when he allegedly stabbed someone to death at Aker Base waterfront, in Rumuolumeni,. He was apprehended on  Monday, August 21, 2017 , along Nkpordiagha Road. Amadi admitted to have committed the heinous act, as a retaliation during a fight with some boys, who had stabbed him and his companion. Amadi said that he fled home after the incident. He said:  “They did not see anything with me, but because of the way I dressed. They arrested me because I was wearing an earring and head-warmer. One of the policemen said I looked suspicious and arrested me. I did not drag with them.”

36 year old man identified as John Emeka Obodoechina, has been burnt to death in Lagos, by his fiancée, Blessing Ohare Ukhurebor, because he decided to quit the relationship. DAILY SUN reported that John had dated Blessing for over a year, and she had moved in with him. John introduced Blessing, from Edo State, to his siblings. He was advised to study the lady for some time and decide if the family should formally go to Blessing’s family for dowry payment. . A business woman, Mercy​ Segun, 42, was on Wednesday arraigned at a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja for allegedly beating her daughter and pouring pepper into her sex organ. Segun, who resides at Idu Gbagyi, Karmo, is facing a three-count charge of criminal force, assault and causing hurt to a minor. The Prosecutor, Mrs Florence Auhioboh, told court that the defendant’s neighbour, one Gift Afegua, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Aug. 22. She alleged that Segun, knowing her daughter to be a minor, ill-treated her by pouring grinded pepper into the girl’s sex organ. Auhioboh told the court that the defendant’s action caused the minor serious pain. The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 246, 265 and 238 and of the Penal Code. Yesterday, the South East Governors’ Forum says it will engage the leadership of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to find solutions to its agitations. The Chairman of the forum, Gov. Dave Umahi disclosed this on Wednesday in Enugu in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting between members of the forum and iPOB leader, Mr Nnamdi Kanu. Umahi, who is the governor of Ebonyi said that the meeting deliberated on the demands of the group and had noted their concerns. “However, the meeting agreed that the demands by IPOB should not be absolute, rather, the governors shall immediately engage the IPOB to further meetings,” he said. Imohimi Edgar has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police in-charge-of the Lagos State Command, replacing Fatai Owoseni. The newly appointed Lagos CP, was recently promoted by the Police Service Commission before his appointment by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris. Previously, Edgar was the state’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in-charge-of Operations. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says the commission recovered N409bni, $69.5m and E23m between January to date. The Acting Chairman  Ibrahim Magu,  who made the disclosure while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, said the commission is prosecuting many of its staff that are involved in bribery and other corrupt practices.

A Uber driver, identified as Hammed Olojo, 31 was on Sunday afternoon restrained by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad on patrol of Third Mainland Bridge from jumping into the Lagoon. Olojo, who drove himself to the Third mainland Bridge in a Uber Toyota Corolla saloon car had written a short note and left it in the car when he was retrained by the officers who monitored him a while before walking up to him. Nnamdi Kanu & His Father Meet With South-East Governors In Enugu [Photo]

Governors in the south-eastern part of Nigeria are reportedly meeting the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu in Enugu. We learnt that the meeting, which is holding inside the Enugu Government House, also has His Royal Highness, Eze Israel Okwu Kanu, the father of the IPOB leader, in attendance. The Sun listed the government at the meeting to include: Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who is the host. Others include Dave Umahi of Ebonyi; the deputy governor of Anambra state and Dr Nkem Okeke. It was learnt that Governors Rochas Okorocha of Imo and Dr Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia were being awaited. Details of the meeting were sketchy at the time of this report, but Emmanuel Uzor, the chief press secretary to Governor Umahi confirmed it adding that one of the major issues for discussion is the call by IPOB for residents to boycott the forthcoming Anambra election. Governor  Aminu Masari  led top government officials including the Secretary to the state government, Dr.Mustapha Inuwa, to receive President Buhari at the  Umar Musa Yar’adua  International Airport on his way to Daura. The Emir of Katsina, Dr.Kabir Abdulmumin, was also at the Airport to welcome the President. The Presidential jet that brought Buhari to katsina touched down at the tarmac of the Airport at 4:06pm. A condemned murderer, Jeremy Morris from Atmore Alabama has reportedly eaten 1200 pages of the Holy bible he requested from a prison guard. The 33-year-old and murderer of two catholic nuns requested the bible as his last meal. According to Worldnews, the prison guards of the William C. Holman Correctional Facility, thought he wanted to pray and repent, so they gave him an old copy of the King James Bible. But surprisingly, the condemned murderer took hours to tear the 1200-page holy book including its cover into small pieces before he ate them. The prison guard, Walter Henri, who handed him the old and worn out Bible, says the inmate seemed to “savor every bite.” “He kept tearing pieces from his Bible and eating them like they were potato chips!” The Holman Prison Director, Frank Davis, says the staff decided to let the prisoner eat the Bible because it didn’t violate the establishment’s “last meal policy.” Director Davis said it’s customary to give sentenced prisone

Suspected cultists in Calabar have brutally shot dead a political aspirant leaving his body in the street for people to see. A man has met his untimely death in a renewed cult clash in Calabar, Cross River state. It was gathered that the man identified as Mr. Mesembe, an aspirant contesting for the position of a Councillor in Calabar South Local Government Area Ward 8 was shot dead late in the night at Eyo Ita Street. According to eyewitnesses, Mr. Mesembe met his death after being found standing on the street by suspected Vikings and Skylow members whom people say had mobilised for a hit, and when they could not find the person, spotted Mesembe and after a shout from one of them that he was the one, was shot and cut with machetes several times. His death came 24 hours after a fight between the Skylow gang and Scorpion gang on Sunday night had led to the death of a Scorpion member in Ekpo Abasi.

Billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a Evans, on Wednesday, pleaded guilty to kidnapping charges brought against him by the Lagos State Government.He was charged al ongside five of his accomplices. Evans pleaded guilty to a two count charge of kidnapping brought against him by the state. He promptly responded that ‘I am guilty’ when the charges were read to him. Evans was represented by his counsel,  Olukoya Ogungbeje . No fewer than eight persons have lost their lives while seven others were severely injured when a commercial bus fell off a bridge and plunged on the Itakpe-Aladja railway line, which is 50 feet below. The lone crash involving a commercial bus with registration number BMA 524 XA, occurred yesterday around the Agbor/Ogwashi-Uku axis of the Benin-Asaba-Onitsha highway. According to the Sun newspaper, the dead victims included six males and two females, while the injured included six adults and a child. While the corpses of the dead victims have been deposited at the mortuary, the injured survivors were rushed to a private clinic at Agbor in Delta State for emergency treatment.
